Description

A delicious overnight French toast casserole with strawberries and cream cheese.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces French or brioche bread (crusts removed, and cut into cubes)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (cubed)
  • 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 10 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar for garnish

Instructions

  1. Layer half of the bread cubes over the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch dish.
  2. Place the cream cheese cubes over the bread cubes.
  3. Layer the sliced strawberries over the cream cheese, and cover with the remaining bread cubes.
  4. Combine the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract if using, and pinch of salt in a medium bowl. Mix well.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, and smoosh the bread down a little so that the bread can absorb the egg mixture.
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Take the pan out of the refrigerator and leave out while preheating the oven to 375F.
  8. Uncover and bake for about 30-40 minutes.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to use day-old bread for better absorption of the egg mixture.
  • This dish can be prepared a night in advance, making it perfect for brunch parties.
