- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan. Line with parchment paper if desired.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add applesauce and vanilla. Batter may look slightly curdled.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in raisins and chopped nuts if using.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool completely on a wire rack.
- Dust with powdered sugar, slice, and serve.
