Description

Enjoy your festive Holiday Layered Sugar Cookie Bars!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (red and green)
  • Holiday-themed sprinkles
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar (optional, for icing)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (optional, for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  6. Divide Dough: Divide the dough into three equal parts. Leave one part plain, color one part red, and color the last part green by adding a few drops of food coloring and mixing until evenly distributed.
  7. Layer the Dough: Press the plain dough into the prepared baking pan, smoothing it into an even layer. Follow with the green dough and then the red dough, smoothing each layer out evenly.
  8. Add Toppings: Sprinkle the top with holiday-themed sprinkles and optionally, white chocolate chips.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 18-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool and Cut: Allow the cookie bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cool, lift them out of the pan and cut into squares or bars.
  11. Optional Icing: If desired, whisk together confectioners’ sugar and milk to make a simple icing. Drizzle over the cooled bars.

Notes

  • Chill the Dough: If the dough becomes too soft to handle, chill it in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes before layering.
  • Customize Colors and Toppings: Feel free to experiment with different colors and sprinkles to match other holiday themes.
  • Storage: Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
