Description
Delicious candy apples perfect for Halloween, decorated with gummy rings and flavored with a hint of cinnamon.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples
- 6 wooden sticks
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon orange food coloring gel
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional for flavor)
- Orange gummy rings for decoration
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples:
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.
- Remove the stems and insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.
- Make the Candy Coating:
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
- Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom.
- Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Color the Candy:
- Remove the saucepan from heat.
- Carefully stir in the orange food coloring gel and cinnamon if using.
- Coat the Apples:
- Working quickly, dip each apple into the candy mixture, turning to coat completely.
- Allow excess candy to drip off, then place the apples on a lined baking sheet to set.
- Decorate:
- While the candy is still tacky, press an orange gummy ring onto the top around the base of the stick.
Notes
- Ensure apples are completely dry to help the candy coating adhere better.
- Use a silicon or parchment-paper-lined baking sheet to prevent sticking.
- If the candy starts to harden in the saucepan, gently reheat it over low heat.
- Add other decorations like sprinkles quickly before the candy sets.
