Description

Delicious candy apples perfect for Halloween, decorated with gummy rings and flavored with a hint of cinnamon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples
  • 6 wooden sticks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange food coloring gel
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional for flavor)
  • Orange gummy rings for decoration

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples:
    • Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.
    • Remove the stems and insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.
  2. Make the Candy Coating:
    • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
    • Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
    • Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom.
    • Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  3. Color the Candy:
    • Remove the saucepan from heat.
    • Carefully stir in the orange food coloring gel and cinnamon if using.
  4. Coat the Apples:
    • Working quickly, dip each apple into the candy mixture, turning to coat completely.
    • Allow excess candy to drip off, then place the apples on a lined baking sheet to set.
  5. Decorate:
    • While the candy is still tacky, press an orange gummy ring onto the top around the base of the stick.

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry to help the candy coating adhere better.
  • Use a silicon or parchment-paper-lined baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  • If the candy starts to harden in the saucepan, gently reheat it over low heat.
  • Add other decorations like sprinkles quickly before the candy sets.
