Description

A classic creamy macaroni and cheese recipe with a blend of gouda and cheddar cheese.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 12 ounces uncooked macaroni noodles
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • 1 yellow onion (diced)
  • 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon mustard powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 8 ounces gouda cheese (shredded, smoked or regular)
  • 2 ounces cheddar cheese (shredded)

Instructions

  1. Add salt to a large pot of water and bring to a boil.
  2. Cook macaroni until al dente according to package directions and drain.
  3. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Add onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in the flour, mustard powder, pepper, and salt.
  6. Let the flour cook for 1 minute, stirring often.
  7. Slowly pour in milk, whisking continuously, and cook until thickened.
  8. Add in the shredded cheeses, and stir until melted.
  9. Remove from heat.
  10. Stir in the drained pasta.
  11. Season with additional salt and pepper, if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Feel free to add breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled for a larger crowd.
