Description

This Decadent Chocolate Croissant Bake is a deliciously indulgent dessert made with layers of croissants, chocolate spread, and a rich custard.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 croissants, stale or fresh, roughly torn
  • 1 cup chocolate spread (such as Nutella)
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare Croissants: Tear the croissants into large pieces and place half of them in a greased baking dish.
  3. Add Chocolate: Spread half of the chocolate spread over the layer of croissants, and sprinkle over the chocolate chips if using. Add the remaining croissant pieces on top, then drizzle the rest of the chocolate spread.
  4. Make Custard Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layered croissants, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Lightly press down with a spatula to make sure everything is well-coated.
  6. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Use Stale Croissants: Slightly stale croissants will better absorb the custard mixture, resulting in a richer texture.
  • Customization: Feel free to add nuts, such as walnuts or hazelnuts, for extra crunch.
  • Flavor Variation: Experiment with different flavored chocolate spreads or add a hint of cinnamon for a spiced twist.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an indulgent dessert.
