Description
Deliciously crisp and sweet baked apple chips made from your favorite apples.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala work great)
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- A squeeze of lemon juice (optional but helps preserve color)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Start by preheating your oven to 225°F (110°C). This low temperature is key to drying out the apples slowly, creating that irresistible crispness. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper so the apple slices won’t stick.
- Slice the Apples Thin: Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer (highly recommended for uniform thinness), slice the apples horizontally into very thin rounds—about 1/8-inch thick. You can leave the cores in for a pretty star-shape in the center or remove them for a smoother texture.
- Toss with Cinnamon: Place the apple slices in a bowl and gently toss them with cinnamon. If you’d like, you can also add a quick squeeze of lemon juice to keep them from browning. Make sure each slice is lightly coated.
- Arrange and Bake: Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Avoid overlapping so they bake evenly. Pop them in the oven for about 1 to 2 hours, flipping them halfway through. Keep an eye on them during the last 30 minutes—they should feel dry to the touch and curl slightly at the edges.
- Cool for Crunch: Once baked, remove the trays from the oven and let the chips cool completely on a wire rack. They’ll crisp up as they cool—that’s when the magic happens!
Notes
- Store the cooled apple chips in an airtight container to maintain their crispness.
