Description

Deliciously crisp and sweet baked apple chips made from your favorite apples.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala work great)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • A squeeze of lemon juice (optional but helps preserve color)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Start by preheating your oven to 225°F (110°C). This low temperature is key to drying out the apples slowly, creating that irresistible crispness. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper so the apple slices won’t stick.
  2. Slice the Apples Thin: Using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer (highly recommended for uniform thinness), slice the apples horizontally into very thin rounds—about 1/8-inch thick. You can leave the cores in for a pretty star-shape in the center or remove them for a smoother texture.
  3. Toss with Cinnamon: Place the apple slices in a bowl and gently toss them with cinnamon. If you’d like, you can also add a quick squeeze of lemon juice to keep them from browning. Make sure each slice is lightly coated.
  4. Arrange and Bake: Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Avoid overlapping so they bake evenly. Pop them in the oven for about 1 to 2 hours, flipping them halfway through. Keep an eye on them during the last 30 minutes—they should feel dry to the touch and curl slightly at the edges.
  5. Cool for Crunch: Once baked, remove the trays from the oven and let the chips cool completely on a wire rack. They’ll crisp up as they cool—that’s when the magic happens!

Notes

  • Store the cooled apple chips in an airtight container to maintain their crispness.
