Delicious chocolate chip cookie bars that are easy to make and perfect for sharing!
Ingredients

- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted (no need to cool)
- 1/2 cup (100g) dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/3 cup (67g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/3 cups (172g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- sea salt flakes (optional – for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350F. Grease and line the bottom and sides of an 8×8″ baking pan with parchment paper. Leave a bit of extra parchment paper hanging over the sides as a little “handle” to use for pulling the bars out later.
- In a large bowl, combine melted butter (it’s OK if it’s hot), brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
- Whisk together until well combined and the butter stops separating from the sugars.
- Whisk in the egg, milk, and vanilla to combine.
- Add in the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Mix together stopping right before it’s fully combined.
- Add in the chocolate chips and fold everything together until you have a streak free dough.
- Drop the cookie dough into your prepared baking pan and spread into an even layer. Sprinkle some extra chocolate chips on top.
- Bake in the center of your preheated oven for 25 minutes or until evenly puffed, the edges are lightly browned, and the center no longer appears wet.
- Cool in the pan until slightly warm or room temperature. Use the overhanging parchment paper to pull the cookie out and onto your serving board.
- Slice the cookie bars and top with sea salt before digging in!
Notes
- Watch the bars closely during baking to ensure they don’t overcook.
- For extra richness, you can use a mix of semi-sweet and dark chocolate chips.
